VAPP ACT 2015: THE CONFERENCE APPLAUDED JONATHAN

Still on Women Conference: Other highlights
1. VAPP – Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015 to commemorate President Jonathan’s assent thereto exactly two years ago before he left office

3.  GEJ’s gender posture was commended;  also his 35% female representation in cabinet in keeping with campaign promises and it was said (not me as I said I did not say a word at the conference just listened to others for the first time and had tea coffee with them and ALL exchanged warm cordiality and courtesy)  that some of the  corrupt practices traced to women in Jonathan’s cabinet  should not be the reason for President Buhari’s apparent anti-gender posturing because  the principle of exclusion was not extended to men by reason that corrupt male politicians and public office holders exist. Meaning just as President Buhari is giving more men opportunities he ought also to give women  35% affirmative action because women voted for him.

4. That it was part of the crowd of female voters that President Buhari’s wife Aisha is puling from to pray for the first citizen and reports trickling online say PMB is improving in UK, this due to women prayers;

5. That you pray for someone to live and the person doesn’t want women to also live; what an irony?

6. President Buhari’s celebrated gender statement “my wife belongs to the kitchen” with a nice smile on his face saying it, was ticked a clever statement intended to make women appear foolish politically and economically for supporting PMB.

7. That women constitute more than half the voters population in Nigeria and are usually committed people and should use population strength to form a political party and win elections with a female Chair!

8. Male contributor made a cheerful note that men have failed Nigeria and he suggests we may pass the baton of leadership to women to steer the ship.
Best regards

TODAY'S CONFERENCE THEME: 'EVOLVE OR BE LEFT BEHIND'

Today Thursday 25th May I was in NAF – Nigeria Air Force Conference Centre and participated in a forum for women in Africa. Senate President Saraki’s wife was there and she probably won’t need the ladies vote at this time but that was not the conference focus – “evolve or be left behind”  - was the conference theme.

I didn’t say a word I wanted to listen to other women for the first time listen– remarkable women outstanding shared experiences. One great lady said she read law and enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court. She said she had worked in CAC – such courage that CAC Executive made passes at her and at every pretty woman in a government department! And bragged  Ms Abubakar (surname) would not get promoted and made life horrifying in the office until Ms Abubakar – she is a beautiful Muslim gal assertive had to turn in her letter of resignation.
Ms Abubakar didn’t have alternate job she just exited. She now runs a very successful magazine she is her own boss and none of those men with complexes are around her.
Another said she is a widow with three children and the first woman to head 3  FM Stations and keeping great at her job.

Too many testimonies – they just announced at the conference that participants should signify and speak out against any trash.
Women were told to report threats and to keep speaking out shouting out and calling out to others to fight and never again join men in saying “women don’t like each other” Because the men want to see that – that don’t men also fight men so if a woman argues a point with another woman so what? Also men and women should respect women and men as co-equals.
Thank you

JUSTICE TSOHO'S ORDER: BEST NBA GS HAB

Distinguished Colleagues,
The first female Attorney General of Lagos State, first female Chair Body of Benchers, the Best General Secretary NBA ever had Hairat Balogun, Grand Dame of the Nigerian Bar Association, has suggested to me to take steps to resolve the NBA impasse.

Look the NBA Trustees are judgment debtors/defendants to the suit and seem incapable of moving forward. They held a meeting last week at which Asiwaju Awomolo SAN presented a good memo but at the time of writing no one has a written decision, if any.
Here is what I propose:
1.  A Mediation committee should serve better than Body of Trustees considering that all of them BoT are parties.

2.  Members of the mediation committee should not include any past President of NBA – These gentlemen don’t seem to have the nerve to call a spade a spade. They only gather to fight under-dogs. Imagine Olisa Agbakoba more keen on appointments than Principles. When he was NBA President he mildly suggested that I should take SPIDEL. That was ten years ago I ignored him cos the principles I was pursuing were more important to me than the appointment. Settle the issues and thereafter everybody join in building the Bar.

3.   They say the best committee is ‘one-person committee’.

4.  Hon Hairat Balogun alone could constitute one-member mediation committee and I will help her arrive at a just and conscionable result because she is a woman of principles.
5.  The NBA 2015 Constitution has been discarded because the court has said it is a nullity and those who filed a notice of appeal dated 31st March 2017 do not quite seem too keen on their appeal. I am aware that the Federal High Court Registry Abuja met with the parties and records had been settled. The court has 60 days to compile records which expires 31st May and Appellant abandoned the court officer.

6.  The appellant wanted stay of execution they didn’t get it.

7.  The appellant wanted to set aside the judgment of Justice Tsoho of 30th March 2017 and failed  thereby.

8.  The respondent/plaintiff/judgment creditor took out contempt of court (committal to prison) Form 48 against AB Mahmoud SAN and his team et al but because it required personal service which couldn’t happen they will have to be served by publication or pasting or other methods.

9.  CONCLUSION: No dispute is too complex for us to resolve. Some had resolved more complicated issues skillfully. A B Mahmoud SAN whom I do not talk to and J K Gadzama SAN whom I do not talk to – they also do not talk to each other. Let them talk to themselves in the greater interest of NBA.  Alternatively let the mediation committee get them to talk.

10.              Thank you!

C N Ajie Esq.

IGBO YORUBA HAUSA TRENDING: VIDEO MUST WATCH

What is going on in this country recession endangers the lives and limbs of our girls and women. Yesterday on Face book women complained of being harassed by Igbo men in market places. Same yesterday we learned of Yoruba and Hausa men in human trafficking moving our girls from Abeokuta to Libya under horrendous conditions and turning the girls to sex slaves. That is what this video is about Nigeria save our girls from man 's inhumanity. Click on the video below dear colleagues and by overt or covert acts do not support human trafficking. Do not cultivate the mindset of these cruel individuals. That a former NBA President of South West extraction or of any extraction whatsoever MR FIX IT. would approve harassment of women lawyers and he gets an Igbo lawyer to help his ungentlemanly conduct of asking for a hundred million naira ransom cruel and barbaric!

APC, PDP SAME, ONLY ONE IS A HYPOCRITE! - ARTICLE BY HR ATTORNEY EBUN

THE VICIOUS CIRCLE

In a bye election into the House of Representatives in Katsina State recently, it was reported that voters turned out en mass to express their anger and frustration, with majority of voters booting out the APC, the ruling party in the State, which is the home state of the President. This is not the issue.

For it will be self deception, for anybody to delude himself that the solution to Nigeria now is to change from APC to PDP. That is grand delusion indeed, of changing just the garment but retaining the person. We have seen the worse of PDP in times past and we have now seen the best of APC. Both are not good enough for Nigeria, because politicians are the same, at least in Nigeria. It is all about self interest, nothing more. The corruption of the APC govt, when it will be unearthed eventually, will be historical. Please mark my words.

The only difference in the APC misadventure is the active collusion of progressive lawyers, human rights and pro-democracy activists and labour leaders, not sparing the media.

In the past, especially under the military regimes and the renegade politicians (PDP in particular), activists stood tall as the conscience of the people, taking out the programmes of govt that were considered anti people. In the present dispensation, our "comrades", lawyers and labour leaders, journalists, etc, changed not only the lyrics but also the tune of all our familiar battle songs. Some even said that we should suspend the Constitution and the rule of law, in order to enthrone civilian dictatorship. We are now told that their counterparts in the military are now planning a coup. Thank God are eyes are now "open".

Let us not be deceived, to think that the solution to Nigeria is all about voting out APC. Far from it. Yes, we must rid Nigeria of this current army of bandits parading themselves as progressives, but never again shall we fall into the terrible hands of the PDP. Never again! Not in our lifetime!! Never!!!

Let our comrades come back home. They have failed Nigeria, but they should come back home to where they rightly belong, on the side of the suffering masses of our people. It is bad enough to be a corrupt politician, but it is certainly worse to be a hypocrite, buried deep in the pit of a so-called progressive government, that has only grabbed power just for the sake of it.

Activists please come back home, speak for the people, organize, mobilize and take hold of Nigeria. Let us boot out this APC, but by all means fence off the PDP and take Nigeria back for our people.

Organize, mobilize and take over. Enough of APC and bye bye to PDP.

Still on Revered CJN's Directives on Suffix "ESQ"

Distinguished Colleagues,
We are having to co-ordinate on Facebook  two platforms this one here and the other RULES WATCH where the Lord Onnoghen’s celebrated directives was post simultaneously for wider reach to our dear readers.
On this platform I like to acknowledge a great American, Professor Lynn Fraser approved our CJN’s directives. Many may not know her, she is a first class US Attorney. She taught me in Georgetown University Law Center DC LL.M., a course in International human rights law.

Abiodun Adeyanju Esq also contributed, he is a Nigerian Lawyer  now a senior staff of the Federal High Court.

Over two decades our colleagues hailed someone as the Dame of the Nigerian Bar. This came about in 2001 at the International Bar Association Conference in Cancun Mexico I was at a session on discriminatory practices in the profession and Professor Mensah South African was on a panel and I put the question to him Sir how do you address  lawyers in your jurisdiction and he said “Ladies”  female lawyers and “gentlemen” for male lawyers and I said in my jurisdiction they say there are no ladies at the bar and so address all as “gentlemen of the bar” and he said that is bad conduct and had been  discarded. He said when you return home endeavor to ‘preach the gospel’.
Back home I wrote a few articles in the law pages of Thisday, Guardian and Vanguard etc and carried out a campaign such that when my colleagues say there are no ladies at the bar I would often pushback in saying “I AM THE DAME OF THE BAR”.

ESQ is used in professional circles connotes same mode as  President, Ambassador, Ministers in the temple of justice – without gender coloration.  Kindly shake off the negative soundtrack that suffix ESQ for ladies  means you are no longer a learned lady– you are a professional lady who takes the same suffix as a learned man as long as you remain in a profession of learnedness; let us enamour  learned ladies. Re-stating the horror of learned ladies who get often asked in court “ are you Miss or Mrs” is no use, I have spoken enough on that & will now rest.
Respectfully submitted
