VAPP ACT 2015: THE CONFERENCE APPLAUDED JONATHAN

Still on Women Conference: Other highlights
1. VAPP – Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015 to commemorate President Jonathan’s assent thereto exactly two years ago before he left office

3.  GEJ’s gender posture was commended;  also his 35% female representation in cabinet in keeping with campaign promises and it was said (not me as I said I did not say a word at the conference just listened to others for the first time and had tea coffee with them and ALL exchanged warm cordiality and courtesy)  that some of the  corrupt practices traced to women in Jonathan’s cabinet  should not be the reason for President Buhari’s apparent anti-gender posturing because  the principle of exclusion was not extended to men by reason that corrupt male politicians and public office holders exist. Meaning just as President Buhari is giving more men opportunities he ought also to give women  35% affirmative action because women voted for him.

4. That it was part of the crowd of female voters that President Buhari’s wife Aisha is puling from to pray for the first citizen and reports trickling online say PMB is improving in UK, this due to women prayers;

5. That you pray for someone to live and the person doesn’t want women to also live; what an irony?

6. President Buhari’s celebrated gender statement “my wife belongs to the kitchen” with a nice smile on his face saying it, was ticked a clever statement intended to make women appear foolish politically and economically for supporting PMB.

7. That women constitute more than half the voters population in Nigeria and are usually committed people and should use population strength to form a political party and win elections with a female Chair!

8. Male contributor made a cheerful note that men have failed Nigeria and he suggests we may pass the baton of leadership to women to steer the ship.
Best regards

TODAY'S CONFERENCE THEME: 'EVOLVE OR BE LEFT BEHIND'

Today Thursday 25th May I was in NAF – Nigeria Air Force Conference Centre and participated in a forum for women in Africa. Senate President Saraki’s wife was there and she probably won’t need the ladies vote at this time but that was not the conference focus – “evolve or be left behind”  - was the conference theme.

I didn’t say a word I wanted to listen to other women for the first time listen– remarkable women outstanding shared experiences. One great lady said she read law and enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court. She said she had worked in CAC – such courage that CAC Executive made passes at her and at every pretty woman in a government department! And bragged  Ms Abubakar (surname) would not get promoted and made life horrifying in the office until Ms Abubakar – she is a beautiful Muslim gal assertive had to turn in her letter of resignation.
Ms Abubakar didn’t have alternate job she just exited. She now runs a very successful magazine she is her own boss and none of those men with complexes are around her.
Another said she is a widow with three children and the first woman to head 3  FM Stations and keeping great at her job.

Too many testimonies – they just announced at the conference that participants should signify and speak out against any trash.
Women were told to report threats and to keep speaking out shouting out and calling out to others to fight and never again join men in saying “women don’t like each other” Because the men want to see that – that don’t men also fight men so if a woman argues a point with another woman so what? Also men and women should respect women and men as co-equals.
Thank you

JUSTICE TSOHO'S ORDER: BEST NBA GS HAB

Distinguished Colleagues,
The first female Attorney General of Lagos State, first female Chair Body of Benchers, the Best General Secretary NBA ever had Hairat Balogun, Grand Dame of the Nigerian Bar Association, has suggested to me to take steps to resolve the NBA impasse.

Look the NBA Trustees are judgment debtors/defendants to the suit and seem incapable of moving forward. They held a meeting last week at which Asiwaju Awomolo SAN presented a good memo but at the time of writing no one has a written decision, if any.
Here is what I propose:
1.  A Mediation committee should serve better than Body of Trustees considering that all of them BoT are parties.

2.  Members of the mediation committee should not include any past President of NBA – These gentlemen don’t seem to have the nerve to call a spade a spade. They only gather to fight under-dogs. Imagine Olisa Agbakoba more keen on appointments than Principles. When he was NBA President he mildly suggested that I should take SPIDEL. That was ten years ago I ignored him cos the principles I was pursuing were more important to me than the appointment. Settle the issues and thereafter everybody join in building the Bar.

3.   They say the best committee is ‘one-person committee’.

4.  Hon Hairat Balogun alone could constitute one-member mediation committee and I will help her arrive at a just and conscionable result because she is a woman of principles.
5.  The NBA 2015 Constitution has been discarded because the court has said it is a nullity and those who filed a notice of appeal dated 31st March 2017 do not quite seem too keen on their appeal. I am aware that the Federal High Court Registry Abuja met with the parties and records had been settled. The court has 60 days to compile records which expires 31st May and Appellant abandoned the court officer.

6.  The appellant wanted stay of execution they didn’t get it.

7.  The appellant wanted to set aside the judgment of Justice Tsoho of 30th March 2017 and failed  thereby.

8.  The respondent/plaintiff/judgment creditor took out contempt of court (committal to prison) Form 48 against AB Mahmoud SAN and his team et al but because it required personal service which couldn’t happen they will have to be served by publication or pasting or other methods.

9.  CONCLUSION: No dispute is too complex for us to resolve. Some had resolved more complicated issues skillfully. A B Mahmoud SAN whom I do not talk to and J K Gadzama SAN whom I do not talk to – they also do not talk to each other. Let them talk to themselves in the greater interest of NBA.  Alternatively let the mediation committee get them to talk.

10.              Thank you!

C N Ajie Esq.

BLESS NBA LAGOS PREMIER EX-ABUNDANTIA CORDIS

Great Igbo Lawyers (Not all Igbo Lawyers are great but so many are great Attorneys) Great!
Great Yoruba Lawyers (Not all Yoruba Lawyers are great but so many are great Attorneys) Great!
Great Lawyers of every region  Great!
Great NBA Premier Lagos Branch Great!
Thank you so much for display of sterling qualities again yesterday  Tuesday 23rd May at the EGM
Yes  preparatory to NBA Lagos Branch biennial election  July 2017 to pick Branch officers before the annual vacation.  I am so proud of our Lagos premier. Yes PROUDEST yesterday when overwhelming majority refused to vote  for Uniform Bye-laws 2015 as the body of rules to regulate the forthcoming election BECAUSE  the 2015 NBA Constitution under which 2015 Uniform Byelaws were  promulgated had since been struck down by Order of Justice Tsoho  of the Federal High Court  on 30th March 2017.
Some great guys namely Professor  Koyinsola Ajayi – the gentleman is not a bar man though one of our members,  his multi-million dollar practice thanks in part to former CBN Governor Sanusi ala Kings College yet none of these count when it comes to principles Mr Konyinsola Ajayi SAN was disgraced with I. Olagunju Esq., They actually came to the meeting to influence votes for the 2015 Bye-Laws  & Lost! They got 19 Votes, We 92!
Many Thanks Premier  Branch. I owe you One Bar Banquet for LAGOS LAWYERS the exact time to be scheduled after elections.
God  Bless you ex abundantia cordis.
