In 2008 the regime of Yar Adua assigned suit N0 FHC/ABJ/CS/499/18
to the law firm of Messrs CN AJIE & CO., to represent the 1st
and 2nd defendants i.e. the Federal Government and the AGF over
Nigeria Airways pensions. I had mentioned this on this forum. It was a claim
for N79Billion. The former staff of Nigeria Airways had previously been paid
N15Billion as severance benefits but the gravamen of their complaint was that
it was incomplete whereas their counterpart in Europe got full sums.
At the time Yar Adua passed next regime was President Goodluck
Jonathan. If GEJ had a think-tank from south south you think they would not
have assisted his regime? Northerners build think-tanks. S’West also. Not so
for S’South. The Brightest and Best Stars of South South were not a miles pole
to the regime. In fact some of the few stars there helped to keep the Itse Sagays, the Utomis, the Caroline
Ajies, the Festus Keyamos out. That is why GEJ’s regime couldn’t build the
critical mass to help him.
But that is not why I am writing. AGF Adoke SAN called a meeting of all the
lawyers in the above named suit to resolve the matter out of court. We were in
his office the first meeting with the SGF and DCL and AGF just started
shouting. I think the sum frightened him.
Peace meetings in SG’s office subsequently held and a sum was
agreed. (I won’t tell you what?) AGF Adoke never got approval from the regime
at the time or perhaps he never presented it to FEC/President Jonathan.
Now President Buhari’s regime has approved N45Billion in a case I
am handling as announced two weeks ago; if a lawyer is incapable of saying mere
“Thank you Mr President” legal ethics taught some.
Thank you Mr President.

Recall lawsuit Buhari filed after 2011 presidential election against
the Guardian newspaper for accusing him of post-election violence. The Guardian
newspaper and Dr Reuben Abati were the defendants. I was the defence counsel.
My statement of defence was pugilist the plaintiff through his counsel called
for settlement ie for the newspaper to apologize and that the monetary damages
would be forfeited. Everyone signed the terms of settlement CA declined to
sign. I complained that the NYSC members were treasures to their parents and
the nation and brought down during the post-election violence. I was mourning
them and others and so I didn’t sign.
Thanks
Good morning Nigeria
Caroline Ajie
