Oby Nwankwo: Our Great Gender Champion is Gone!

Dear National Democratic Institute and Country Folks,

On or about February 2017, upon my inquiry on why the GEO Bill was being delayed, NDI gender advisor Ms Ene Edeh asked me to personally liaise with my learned friend, Oby Nwankwo who was co-ordinating legislative activities towards the enactment of the Gender Equal Opportunities Bill. I enthused that the Senate President and Speaker Dogara should get NASS to pass this Bill.

Barrister Mrs Oby Nwankwo was in CEDAW New York. Well known to me, I said to my Learned Lady Oby as we were soon to interact, what kept the Bill from passing and her thoughts moving forward? She said she was planning a workshop after the foiled attempt at a public hearing of the national assembly. The workshop was intended to get Islamic scholars like Emir Sanusi and others to present on gender rights bearing in mind HRM our Sultan’s position. I was on Facebook now 10/12/17 and read from OSIWA’s personnel and others post she passed and condolence messages were being written. I asked on FB what happened to Nigeria’s great gender champion. Please NDI find out was she ill?.

Barrister Mrs. Oby Nwankwo, founder and Executive Director of the Civil Resource Development and Documentation Centre (CIRDDOC), non-governmental organization, held a Masters degree in Law. She retired from the magistracy after 23 years of service; a human rights activist, election observer she had been in the forefront of the campaign for women’s rights. She was a mobiliser, consultant and trainer/Facilitator and author of several publications on gender and women’s rights. She represented Africa on the Steering Committee of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (ICC); was on ICC Gender Justice Team; Advisory Board member of Global Fund for Women.

PDP Convention 2017: Matters Arising!

NOTES:

1) CTC OF JUDGMENT

The Court awarded ten million naira in favour of the plaintiff/judgment creditor. I actually have CTC of the said judgment  for a matter as part of the plethora of authorities and could scan and email it to you but it’s too bulky. I suggest your online newspaper could get the CTC from the Federal High Court or the PDP or his Counsel.

2) PDP-NWC: GENDER BALANCE NOT YET REFLECTING?

Having made that slight addition to your report I want to say to PDP members I see that apart from the conventional office of woman leader and her deputy, there was no other office won by any of the teaming female members of a major opposition political party. Just wondering if the Icon of gender struggles Iyom Josephine Anenih (PDP stalwart) has given up on gender or  retreated prior to the rapture. By the way Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as capital of Israel,  2017, the 70^th  year after the declaration of the state of Israel by UN in 1947, perhaps signposts events leading to the rapture. 

3)  WHY S’WEST LOST PDP CHAIR TO S’SOUTH-S’EAST COHESION

South West was walloped for the office of Chair partly cos SEast and S’South no longer trust SWest following  PDP 2015 experience. They say they are Treacherous. Not to be trusted. They collected monies they didn’t deliver to their field officers.  In the civil society some collected humongous amounts some civil society leaders told me, the CSO ‘collectors’ pocketed the money and were globetrotting with money meant to buy millions of megabits and data  for Nigerian youngsters to ‘pepper’ political opponents online. APC was very good at getting Nigerian children to ‘pepper’ PDP/GEJ who didn’t seem to match APC/BAT so they overwhelmed PDP then in power. Pouh!  Bros/Sis are the other regions SE/SS free of blame?. Loads of negative sides on other regions too!.

In February 2016, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Secondus, then deputy national chairman of the PDP, for allegedly receiving illegally, 23 luxury vehicles valued at N310 million from Jide Omokore, oil mogul who is being probed for alleged contract fraud.

He was later to spend eight days in custody, with the PDP alleging his arrest was “part of the grand script by the APC-led federal government to decimate the opposition”.

Upon his release, Secondus blamed “a minister from Rivers state” for his ordeals with the anti-graft agency, apparently referring to Rotimi Amaechi, being the only minister from Rivers then and now.

God also blessed Isaac, Ishmael’s other brother. Isaac is the father of Jacob (Israel) who had 12 Sons representing the twelve tribes of Israel. God loves all his kids please let there be no more religious acrimonies between both religious Brothers.

Saharareporters vs- Sanda's Counsel Daudu SAN: Matters Arising

It is possible Mr JB Daudu SAN took the decision to defend Ms Maryam Sanda lady accused of killing her husband Biliaminu Haliru Bello, after Daudu SAN read me in OurCountryNigeria@yahoogroups.ca  when she was first brought to court.  Let me pause to make an observation. A number of Muslim women don’t change their surnames after marriage Maryam Sanda never bore Haliru Bello’s surname and a number of other Muslim women, Marriage not being slavery sale ala Libya and change to slave master’s name.

My learned lady Maryam  proud of her Father’s name Wali established a foundation in Wali’s name. Espoused to the former Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Uwais ought to keep it as Maryam Wali-Uwais. Our models for women’s rights sometimes thro’ inadvertence dismantle the rules of gender struggles.

As I was saying JB Daudu SAN now in the Maryam Sanda’s murder case would he, JB Daudu SAN say to C N AJIE ESQ “thank you” for the exposition in public interest advocacy campaigns on this matter? I don’t work for “thank you” though. Take two examples Dr Olusola Saraki’s rise to the senate presidency was tumultuous. My humble self and RULES WATCH advocated respect for s.50 of the CFRN which makes mandatory election of NASS officers by NASS. After that resistance to BAT/PMB’s contrary position I received a nice one line email from Deputy S-P Ike Ekweremadu.  First female CJN Mariam Mukhtar sent a letter following our successful work to let the first female CJN be against interferences by then AGF Adoke SAN. We won. As it transpired AGF Adoke SAN stopped the fees for the court cases  conducted for FGN till date. Despite the law suits were concluded with CTC of the judgment sent to AG’s office.

Another example PDP – But for some PDP was meant to go into comatose and extinction.  You know how much people were afraid of President Buhari bearing in mind arresting and detaining citizens over humongous allegations, country was really gripped in deep fear. People were too scared to write at the time. APC’s intention was to turn Nigeria into a one party state. I resisted it and attempts to turn Buhari into a demi-god foiled. I almost paid the ultimate price for my public interest activities to have Nigeria steered on two major parties instead of killing one party pet there be competition for our democracy to thrive. When I tell people attempts were made to assassinate me but failed, they say why didn’t you stop and I said I will stop or slow down when I see the critical mass and that occurred.  

My Mom in Delta State would call, didn’t listen to family dictating my pace. Uncle Itse Sagay SAN sent one email to join his PACAC efforts an Uncle I respect so much I didn’t. Did PDP thank me? Not even an email. Instead an Ekiti lawyer took the credit.  Ekiti lawyer went and collected a national honours award that was meant for me plus collected huge fees. The same Ekiti lawyer wants Hon Justice Onnoghen CJN to reward him through appointing him to NJC committee for advocating for Onnoghen’s CJN-ship elevation as President Buhari had initially delayed sending His Lordship’s name to the Senate for screening and confirmation. About 4 or 5 of senior lawyers worked on it 2017. I, singlehandedly conducted a similar work 5 years earlier, 2012.

I am Catholic; the Pope on my Facebook. Holy Father said we won’t make heaven unless we work for humanity.  Happily God sent Powerful Angels 24/7. God protects all of his children Muslim children Christian Children Catholic children Pentecostal children ALL ARE CHILDREN OF GOD.

In Abia State right now the state party PDP is making the tenure of the female Chief Judge tiresome. The Attorney General of Abia State colluded with others in government and set up a parallel judicial service commission of Abia State  issuing orders totally disrespectful of the office of the CJ of Abia State. Please PDP kindly move to remove the AG Mr Umeh from office. He has served as AG this is his 9^th year. Enough!  Many Nigerians opine PDP is perhaps more pro-gender than APC.  However, no political party should permit this anathema.
