PMB: BAN ON FACEBOOK IN NIGERIA IMMINENT!

Dear Country Folks,

Two days ago a network of six civil society organizations known as  African Community Impact and Develpoment Network (AFRI-CID)  announced a platform aimed at  responsible social media usage.   AFRI-CID has received presidential  support to launch its program as its members were received by Mr Femi Adesina Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari on Thursday 14th Sept.  Mr President’s SA Media posted this information on his Facebook for those of you who are his friends on Facebook and even if you were not , you could  access it because it was shared as a public post.

Essentially these young citizens in my respectful view are irked at the irresponsible use of social media in disseminating hate speech so don’t be surprised if access to Facebook is censored or banned in Nigeria. List of countries where Facebook is banned or censored include China, Morocco, Malaysia, India, Egypt,  Mauritius, Vietnam, Syria, Iran, Germany, United Kingdom etc.

Note that if Facebook is restricted or banned, I won’t be there to protest for seven reasons:
1.    Facebook provides a networking platform for work  rather in Nigeria Facebook distracts professionals from work at the expense of national development.

2.    Nigerian Law school a number of students under-performed because of Facebook

3.    Facebook should not provide a haven for criminal activities and recruits and insults.

4.    There was Cynthia the pretty daughter of a retired high ranking officer who met some miscreants on Facebook visited with them was brutalized and brutally murdered.

5.    Only last month two supposedly Facebook friends one Mr Johnson invited another Mr Ozoemelam to his birthday party.  He got there and was kidnapped; there are other  victims.

6.    Sexual harassment and online gang rape  i.e for culprits without access to victims the Cyber Crime Act takes care of this category  of criminality bearing in mind the Criminal Act does not cover situations of online sexual misconduct. As you know under the Criminal Act for an offence to count as rape, the victim and the culprit must meet  not online; physical presence.

7.    Intellectual activities on Facebook  very scarce. Gangsterism by Augustine Alegeh SAN  who operate under cover of anonymity. If JB Daudu SAN is not inclined to de-robe Augustine Alegeh for sponsoring crime,  is it that JB Daudu SAN  Chair LPDC endorsed savagery. Should he?

Do not hold me responsible if President Buhari decides to  place a ban on Facebook.
Yours  sincerely
Attorney Carol Ajie, LL.M Georgetown
