He was a founding
member of EBF and pioneer Chair. His rival Arthur Obi Okafor’s influence
in EBF overpowered Prof Ernest Ojukwu (EO)’s and thereby led the great
forum to endorse AOO as its presidential flagbearer at the just
concluded election. Naturally EO should be bitter that he wasn’t elected
even though he had worked assiduously for other Lawyers in previous years not
to be elected.
The same EBF, EO
used as a tool to oppress the Igbos of the Niger Delta without apologies. Years
ago when EO was in EBF saddle he had a penchant for ejecting Midwestern Igbos
from EBF meetings. Chief Nwamu one of our leaders would say but
Asaba and the entire Delta North is Igbo and when EO was reminded that
Ohaneze recognizes this fact. EO was quick to retort “This is not Ohaneze
please” and we often wonder is this professor of law politically naive as to
exclude some of Igbos greatest assets?
Nowadays EBF
is well outside Ojukwu’s influence and the new leaders are more tolerant of
Igbos of Delta State origin such that EBF’s presidential candidate AOO
nominated Andrew Odum as his campaign D-G. Andrew Odum is from Asaba. He lives
and works in Asaba and worked for AOO the adopted candidate of EBF. Ernest
Ojukwu was so intolerant of Delta Igbos in his time that the entire Midwest
swore that they were not going to support him for elected or electable offices
because if they did and he won he would have continued with his unexplained
anger against his Igbo Brothers in Delta State.
So where were
Ernest Ojukwu’s votes to come from?
1. In EBF Arthur Obi
Okafor had blocked Ojukwu there.
2. In South South Paul Usoro
had blocked Ojukwu successfully and seamlessly
3. In Northern forum Paul
Usoro pulled some votes and Okafor did pull some also EO trickles.
4. In the South West Lagos is
central. Paul Usoro SAN is the candidate of premier Lagos with the
highest number of voters.
5. So from where was EO’s
votes? Agbakoba’s allies did not follow Agbakoba’s endorsement of EO.
Agbakoba’s field marshall is Lady Obodokwu rejected Ojukwu outright
and worked for AOO.
6. Some of EO’s
ex-students were the ones who gave Ojukwu the votes he scored which
were not nearly enough to scale through. He should take his loss in
equanimity and probably be more pro-Igbo next time. EO may wish to slug
it with AOO or whoever the EBF throws up in 2024.
7.. The Yorubas don’t behave
like that once you are Yoruba even from Kogi State or wherever outside South
West, they rally round you and they will work for you. I like the Yorubas
for being more liberal than Prof Ernest Ojukwu. A lot of Igbos are becoming
more liberal nowadays.
Thank you!
