Symbol of justice
Constitutional and Human Rights Lawyer Carol Ajie yesterday sent a petition to President Barack Obama urging him to advise President Muhammadu Buhari to respect court orders or resign. The petition to Obama at the White House and copied to the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Reps. Dogara  was sent after it was signed online by over 4,000 individuals.
This is coming on the heels of similar calls by rights Activist Femi Falana SAN and others to President Buhari to respect Court orders and release accused persons who had been admitted to Court bail. According to the petition, Buhari’s presidency and agents despised subsisting order of the Federal High Court, Abuja to release IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally, who is still being held in chains, in dungeon cell since Oct., 14th this the 4th month! While calling on Obama to call President Buhari to order, the petitioners also listed other “sins” allegedly committed by President Buhari to include unfair tactics, expression of prejudices and hostility towards the people commonly known as “Biafrans”, in the South Eastern region of Nigeria, gender injustice and the slaughter of more than 300 Shia Muslims. President Buhari’s trouble started during his first Presidential Media Chat on national TV Stations, on Wednesday 30th Dec., 2015 wherein he said that his regime will not release persons in detention despite several court orders because according to him, they could jump bail, if allowed freedom.  This, according to the petitioner, caused an uproar, and outright condemnation, because it is an encroachment on the judicial arm, calculated to humiliate Judges. The petitioner alleged that President Buhari deliberately disobeyed court orders, while he was expected respect the Constitution under which he took his Oaths. President Buhari, according to the petitioners should either “protect our laws or resign from office if he was unable to comply else impeachment proceedings could be taken against him by our Legislators”. They also accused President Buhari of keeping gifts tainted with corruption. “In the course of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki’s statements not a few persons were named. According to Dasuki, President Buhari received 5 SUVs and $300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand US Dollars) in cash after his SUV was damaged in July 2014.
