ICC vs- Dasuki, Metuh et al: What of the Victims?

Sir Falana's referral to ICC for the prosecution of Dasuki, Metuh, etc reported in Premium Times. I will not argue issues of jurisdiction here or now as I am out of time I have writ of summons to prepare and finalize client in Greece and I am almost late on deadlines. As a human rights Attorney you are aware that ICC detention centre in The Hague in Netherlands keep international standards for the treatment of prisoners. If Dasuki, Metuh and others were to, will be entitled to the medical services, library, computers, books and magazines, not kept incommunicado and chains, their families and lawyers would visit severally, they will have access to good meals, clean water, fruits and if they decide to cook they will have 5-star kitchen.

Because Buhari is being politically vindictive, he is chasing the suspects with venom and turning away from the victims ie IDPs whose sources of livelihood and income need immediate and urgent revamping. These should be matters of concern to the human rights community. Look ICC plans for victims whilst trial of suspects proceeds.

The Rome Statute created two independent institutions: the International Criminal Court and the Trust Fund for Victims. While it is impossible to fully undo the harm caused by genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression, it is possible to help survivors, in particular, the most vulnerable among them, (women and girls) rebuild their lives and regain their dignity and status as fully-functioning members of their societies. Please advocate for victims and mobilise  to hand them benefits, let us set up innovative projects to meet victims’ physical, material, or psychological needs. The Trust Fund for Victims can act for the benefit of victims of crimes, regardless of whether or not there is a conviction by ICC. N1.8Billion per month put to maintain Buhari's extravagant fleet of aircraft could transform some lives. If you have access to Mr President tell him. Not VP learned colleague who mightn't influence it. cc President Buhari.

Best,
CA
