MOZIA REPLIES AJIE
My sister,
I wish to clarify that a majority of
names of members on the lists sent to the Branch Chairmen for final
verification have the required data. Admittedly, some names do not have phone
numbers and/or e mail addresses. Those in this category have not taken any step
to update their data or in some cases, supplied incomplete details like phone
numbers with less than 11 digits .We are hoping that they will be able or
willing to oblige their chairmen with the missing or correct details for
inclusion in their respective individual data.
There were instances of several
names having the same telephone number and email address. We got to know that
in some cases, rather being a systemic error, it was actually the deliberate
act of some candidates who made bulk payment of branch dues for others and who
were perhaps ensuring that the issue of how the beneficiaries will ultimately
vote was not left to chance. The Branch chairmen were thus requested to assist
in obtaining & updating the data of such members with the missing/ correct
info and return the list thereafter with such added inputs highlighted
We also received complaints by some
colleagues that on accessing the portal to verify / update their records, they
found that the system indicated that they had successfully updated their
data whereas they did not do so. In some cases, strange details were said to
have been posted against their names. In some extreme cases, we had reports of
suspicion that "unsolicited assistance" sponsored by the competition
resulted in wrong details being deliberately entered for some colleagues with
known preferences.
You will not believe the number of
our colleagues that called & requested that we guide them on how to set up
email accounts to enable them participate in the exercise. I usually referred
them to their teenage children for assistance.
We already have lists for all the
branches which can be viewed on line. We will run with the lists if any branch
chairman fails to respond. It is emphasized that they are not compiling any
fresh lists for us. It is for the above reasons that we decided to send the
full lists to the branches rather than isolating the names of those with
incomplete or missing details which will be easier to manipulate & return.
Admittedly, there were instances
where names were repeatedly sent by the chairmen before they were eventually
captured. That problem has largely been solved. Some names were excised when
verification showed that either the BPF or the branch dues was/ were not paid
as & when due.
Finally, may I state that it was the
decision of the ECNBA after consultations with the ISP to send the lists
to the branch chairmen for the reasons above stated. It was not the decision of
Augustine Alegeh SAN. The ECNBA is not
anyone's puppet. We are humble enough to accept fair criticism & informed
suggestions on how to do things better. We are not being & we cannot be
manipulated. That suggestion (not from you) is quite offensive.
My very sincere compliments.
