APC may wish to nominate Gulak as Chair APC
then after it has sacked the present. Courts do not
appoint officers for political parties and if they
did, the court didn't say PDP can not revoke
Gulak's PDP membership card right now!
Let us respect the rights of political parties to
elect, pick, select or appoint their own officers.
Please tell the court that Gulak fits a APC Lackey, he
cannot lead PDP at this time of PDP's reconstruction.
Additionally, PDP could elect a woman from the region
the Chair is zoned to, as PDP Chair. So that the
gender rights groups would continue to perceive
PDP as the party with a fairer gender balance than
APC. Which is what it is anyway. Recall that a
few weeks ago Senator Remi Tinubu, Lagos, burst,
had to upbraid APC for its poor gender policy!
PDP gets chairman Wednesday
The main
opposition party in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party, may
eventually get a substantive chairman on Wednesday when the members of
its National Executive Committee meet in Abuja.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a
statement in Abuja on Friday, said the members of the party’s National
Working Committee had scheduled meetings of key statutory organs of the
party for next week.
According to the schedule approved by the NWC, the meeting of the National Caucus of the party has been slated for Tuesday.
This meeting, Metuh said, would be followed by that of the Board of
Trustees on the morning of Wednesday, while that of the National
Executive Committee would follow in the afternoon.
“The meetings are in furtherance of internal discussions on
very crucial issues within the party as well as ways to reposition it
for the challenges ahead,” Metuh, who is being tried for corruption,
added.
But the hope of an early resolution of the crisis rocking the party
may have further been complicated as the self-imposed National Chairman
of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, has returned to court, asking it to
stop the party from holding NEC or any other meeting.
Gulak also asked the Court of Appeal to restrain the Acting National
Chairman and the Secretary of the PDP, Uche Secondus and Prof. Wale
Oladipo or any other person from presiding over any of the party’s
meetings.
In a motion filed by his lawyer, Mr. J.S. Okutepa (SAN) at the Court
of Appeal dated Friday, January 29, Gulak is seeking an order of
injunction restraining the party from allowing any order person to act
as national chairman to preside over the meeting.
He averred that until a superior court of competent jurisdiction
overturns the Justice Baba Heseein judgement of December 16, 2015, he is
the only one legally allowed to occupy the office of the national
chairman of the party.
In another suit by Messers Silva Opusunju and Associates on behalf of
Gulak, the former presidential aide also filed an originating summons
brought pursuant to order 1, Rule 2 of the High Court of the Federal
Capital Territory, Abuja (civil procedure rules) 2004 and under the
inherent jurisdiction of the Court against the PDP, Chairman of the
party’s Governors Forum, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; Oladipo and the National
Legal Adviser, Mr. Victor Kwon.
In the suit, Gulak is seeking the determination whether the
judgement/ruking of the court of December 16, is valid until the
determination of the appeal filed by the PDP and Secondus in suit no:
CV/153/15.
He also asked the court to determine whether the continuous parade by Secondus as acting national chairman is not contemptuous.
Gulak also asked the appellate court to determine whether Mimiko can
order Oladipo to take over the position of the acting national chairman
from Secondus was in order or not.
