Achievements of
President John Magufuli of Tanzania sworn in Nov 5
Compare&
contrast with the achievements of Nigeria’s President Buhari
· The Tanzania's new President has displayed unusual
zeal for austerity and impatience with corruption and waste since taking office
on 5th Nov., 2015 and he truly has no friends no foes here.
· The Nigeria’s President Buhari keeps his presidential
fleet and rides gleefully, a man once famous for associating with the Talakawas
to one who dines with World leaders and the Dangotes being led into Aso Rock by
his friends the Emir Sanusis – Why didn’t he lead the down trodden Talakawas in
Kano to Aso Rock? Record breaking identifying with the poor instead isn’t it?.
· Tanzania’s new President sweeps the street fellowships
with fishermen and the down trodden rides in a bike. See photo below.
· Tanzania’s new President cancelled Independence Day
celebrations, shunned big spending and public display of wealth. Instead he
spent the time on street-cleaning to improve sanitation.
· Tanzania’s new Minister Dr John Magufuli downsized by
more than 90 percent the budget for the opulent state dinner that usually marks
the opening of parliament ordered the dinner funds saved to state hospital beds
and roadworks. His government is constructing roads already in Tanzania. Now
and again the Buharis host banquets in Aso Rock for APC members. Is he the
President of APC or of Nigeria? Buhari’s budget is nearly twice Jonathan’s. All
on-going constructions in Nigeria locked down by Buhari.
· Tanzania’s new President cancelled foreign travel for
officials, banned the purchase of first-class air tickets although the
president, his deputy and prime minister are exempt. Others business class. Buhari
keeps numb over Ministers tickets 1st class or business?
· Tanzania’s new President ordered that government
meetings and workshops be held in government buildings rather than expensive
hotels, and cut a bloated delegation of 50 people set to tour Commonwealth
countries to just four. Buhari’s first official delegation to Washington DC in
July 2015 was all-male 33 and he said we should be praising him? See Tanzania’s Vice President serving
with President Dr John Magufuli is a
woman Samia Saluhu Hassan. With Buhari, a woman is neither number 2 or 3 or 4,
5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10. He acceded a bare 15% in his cabinet below 35% affirmative
action against his campaign pledge to women groups.
· Tanzania’s new President publicly issued a warning to Ministers
and other public officers that his
regime will not tolerate corrupt and bureaucratic government officials and that
they will have to work tirelessly to serve Tanzanians along with him. What of
if this great man Dr Magufuli gets the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Leadership in
Africa whilst Nigeria lays prostrate because he has to go slow?
· Sworn in 5th November 2015 six weeks old in office, Bulldozer Magufuli sweeps
the street in front of his official resident thereby leading by example to
clean his country and rid it of cholera.
· President Buhari sworn in 29 May 2015, six months plus
in office he does not lead by example his hitherto Spartan lifestyle dramatically
turns profligate he says slow and steady wins the race? Polio milestone was
achieved by his predecessor Jonathan. Jonathan also aggressively tackled ebola
successfully. Whereas President Buhari almost brought back ebola to Nigeria via
neglect even as boko haram waxed stronger under Buhari’s watch signifying perhaps he is content with the politics of go-slow.
