THE SENATE: SOCIAL MEDIA CENSORSHIP BILL: BLOGGERS' CLOG?

Thursday 3rd Dec., 2015

To: The President of the Senate,
I note the social medial censorship bill being presented in the midst of report by Saharareporters of  N60Billion allegedly received  for arms deal already vehemently refuted  by your Excellency Mr President in online publication below:   http://thelightnews.com/n60-billion-arms-deal-saraki-blasts-sahara-reporters-for-peddling-lies/

I have perused your draft bill online and I see that it makes reference to an affidavit accompanying a petition before publication online. Most online reports Sir are NOT premised on petitions. They just write a report from information available to them and a rejoinder and sur-rejoinder may ensue.  There were hints of a lawsuit in libel against Saharareporters on account of the N60Billion allegation and remarks that it was not going to be practicable because Saharareporters may have no physical presence in Nigeria but only in NYC.

I think there is a mis-communication or mis-information. I understand  from the Bar as an Activist that a colleague did file a libel suit against Saharareorters at the FCT High Court Abuja 2015 and the matter has been assigned to Court 32. The Bailiff was to serve  the originating processes  but no transport costs from… and I am following up the lawsuit. Guess who the plaintiff is in the libel lawsuit?

The younger brother of the Wife of Mr President, Aisha Buhari.  And you want to ask what is the suit about? Sir Saharareporters once published a report of a three hundred million bribe allegedly collected to influence President Buhari in the allocation of an oil bloc. His brother-in-law denied any wrong doing and denied any collection  of any bribe sum and they actually instructed lawyers to file a libel suit and I think somewhere the Lawyers waited a long hall to proceed.
Lawyers are generally patient people whilst awaiting further instructions.
Kind regards
Attorney CN Ajie
